Support for Ukraine
The team at Barnham Broom has been supporting aid efforts for Ukraine.
We have been supporting local businessman Nick Hamwee, who has raised £80,000 for child victims of the war after his own family was expelled from Russia.
Mr. Hamwee, who lives in Hunworth Mill in Norfolk, has been fundraising for KCK Kampa Community Centre, a Prague-based organisation that has been supporting Ukrainian children and mothers seeking refuge in the Czech Republic.
The money will be used to deliver healthcare, dentistry, education, language skills, food, medicines, trauma therapy, and playgroups.
Mr. Hamwee hosted a special donor project update event at our resort. The initiative has seen donations from across the county, as well as a £3,000 donation from Barnham Broom.
We are pleased and humbled to make a donation to an extraordinary scheme, which is helping to address the refugee crisis caused by the Ukrainian war. We are hugely thankful to our golf club members and Longbow Capital, our co-donor, for making a generous financial contribution, that will enable Mr. Hamwee to continue his invaluable work.
We are appealing to other businesses and donors in our region to join in these efforts. Every pound that is raised is going directly into the front line of the work…ultimately helping save children from the horrors of war.
Efforts to help people affected by the Ukraine war have also been undertaken by some of our employees.
Darina Portass, Food & Beverage Supervisor at Barnham Broom, said: “I have family and friends in Ukraine and Russia. All of us are very much against the war. As soon as I heard about the events unfolding just over a year ago, I wanted to do something to help.
“I’ve been fundraising to take vital suppliers to the border. Barnham Broom has supported me in doing collections at work, helping to fill an entire van with goods to the Ukraine border. I am very grateful for all that Barnham Broom has done for the people of Ukraine who are in desperate need. Especially during this financially difficult time for all.”
